Their sound at times reminds you of classic essential punk-rock music like Pennywise but the message is as politically charged as Anti-Flag. In fact the second track on the album “God and Police” Features Chris Barker of Anti-Flag in which a music video was recently released with footage of a live performance from Dobrofest. Although this track is mostly in Russian the majority of their songs are in English.
Geography and politics aside, the bands music is of a pretty high quality, and this new release has some real crackers. Take for instance, ‘God and Police’, which is all in Russian by the way, and it features Chris ‘#2′ Barker of ANTI-FLAG, whose parts are also in Russian. Now, I am not fluent in the bands native tongue, so I had absolutely no idea what was being said, but I can tell you that it sounded pretty fucking good!..
… Any punk rocker would be happy for this to be in their collection. This new release from TARAKANY! is a fine punk rock addition for 2014 and if you’ve never heard of these guys, get onto these Ruskies before they get any older!
So what does a band in their third decade offer us? Some damn catchy punk and roll which shows it influences from metal to hardcore and beyond with the skilled gloss of some seasoned veterans. These 14 tracks have a big sound. Mix some Social Distortion with some Offspring, and a dose of Anti-Flag (Chris Barker appears on this), and a helping of Bad Religion. The styles shift from song to song but the riffs and hooks keep you interested throughout…
…Tarakany! are the Russian Ramones, more so in spirit and longevity, but also in some of the song crafting. They have amassed 12 studio albums, around 30 singles, several splits and much more. What you have here is a very solid rock record drawing on years of influence and laid out in a way to demonstrate the experience of the individuals who put it together.
